These codes cover LG front-load and top-load washers sold in the U.S. over the last 15 years. Some models show the code with a dash or number added (for example dE1, dE2).

OE: the LG washer won't drain
OE is the code we're called about most. The washer tried to pump water out and the level didn't drop in time. Nine times out of ten the cause is something in the drain path rather than a failed part:
- Clean the drain pump filter. On LG front-loaders it's behind the small door at the bottom front, usually on the right. Put down towels and a shallow pan, pull the small drain tube first to let water out, then unscrew the filter. Coins, hair ties, bra wires and lint are the usual haul.
- Check the drain hose. A hose pushed too far into the standpipe, kinked behind the machine, or frozen in an unheated Tri-Cities garage in January will all trigger OE.
- Run Rinse+Spin. If it drains normally, you're done.
If the filter is clean and you hear the pump humming but no water moves, the pump is jammed or failed. If you hear nothing at all, it may be the pump motor or the control board — that's where a technician's meter saves you from buying the wrong part.
IE: not filling
The washer isn't getting enough water in the time it expects. Make sure both faucets behind the machine are fully open, then shut them off, unscrew the inlet hoses and look at the small screens inside the washer's inlet ports. Tri-Cities hard water clogs those screens with mineral grit, especially on older plumbing. If the screens are clean and water pressure is normal, the water inlet valve is the likely failure.
UE and LE: spinning and motor problems
UE is usually a loading issue — a single bath mat, a waterproof dog bed, or a comforter that bunches to one side. If you get UE on normal mixed loads, worn shock absorbers, a failing drum bearing or a hall sensor problem may be to blame. Grinding or a "jet engine" roar during spin is a bearing warning.
LE means the direct-drive motor couldn't turn the drum. Overloading causes it, but repeated LE codes usually point to the rotor position sensor, the stator, the motor wiring harness or the control board.
dE: the door won't lock
The washer won't start until the door lock confirms it's latched. Check that no sleeve or sock is caught in the rubber door boot, and that the door hook isn't bent. If the door clicks but the code returns, the door lock assembly or its wiring has usually failed — a common, moderately priced repair.
How to reset an LG washer
Unplug the washer (or flip the breaker) for about a minute, plug it back in, and start a Rinse+Spin. A reset clears a one-time glitch, but it won't fix a clogged filter or a failed part — if the same code comes back, that's your answer.
