Nearly every ice maker we service in the Tri-Cities lives inside a refrigerator — the module in the freezer door of a French-door unit, or the classic arm-and-tray in a top-freezer. Standalone nugget-ice machines exist here and there, but the in-fridge module is the workhorse, and its failure points are wonderfully predictable: the water inlet valve stops opening, the fill tube freezes into a plug, the module motor gives up mid-cycle, or a clogged filter starves the whole system until the cubes come out hollow.
Water quality plays a role too. Columbia-basin water carries enough mineral and sediment load to scale up valves and slowly choke filters — we see it across the loop, and a bit more on well-supplied properties out toward West Richland and Benton City. Part of every ice maker visit is checking flow upstream of the module, because replacing a module that's being starved by a $30 valve fixes nothing for long.

Check two things before you call: that the wire arm or paddle isn't locked in the 'off' position, and that the water filter isn't overdue — a clogged filter is the single most common ice killer we see. If both check out, the valve, fill line or module needs a proper diagnosis.
Low water flow. The module isn't getting enough fill per cycle, so cubes freeze thin-walled and hollow. The culprit is usually a scaling inlet valve or a tired filter — Columbia-basin mineral load speeds both along. It's typically one of our least expensive repairs.
Yes. A one-time freeze can be thawed, but repeat freezing means something upstream — a weak valve dribbling water, a low freezer temperature setting, or a poorly routed line. We correct the cause, not just the symptom, so you're not calling us back every month.
